Drone Food Delivery in Dhaka: Izakaya’s Futuristic Trial

Izakaya, a Japanese restaurant in Dhaka, is making headlines with Bangladesh’s first-ever drone food delivery in Dhaka. The restaurant’s pilot program aims to cut through the city’s infamous traffic jams while offering a futuristic twist to meal delivery.

The trial was conducted from Izakaya’s Gulshan 2 outlet, with drones delivering meals directly to customer rooftops in the Gulshan-Banani area. Each drone carried specially designed boxes to ensure food arrived safe and fresh. Customers were notified in advance to receive their meals smoothly.

Rayana Hossain, Izakaya’s Managing Director, explained that this initiative is more about necessity than novelty. High delivery fees in Bangladesh make traditional delivery challenging for small businesses, unlike in countries with capped charges.

Although the trial was free, it highlighted challenges like drone navigation, battery life, and safety precautions. Still, the overwhelmingly positive customer response shows a promising future for drone food delivery in Dhaka.
